VUMBURA CAMP (pronounced Vuumbera) is an 8-roomed tented camp situated to the north of Mombo, in a private concession bordering the Moremi Game Reserve in the extreme north of the Okavango Delta. VUMBURA CAMP offers both water and land activities. Mokoros (dug-out canoes) traverse the flood plains under the guidance of polers from the BaYei tribe, who has been using mokoros as their traditional form of transport for hundreds of years. Boats take guests onto the larger and deeper areas of water (water levels permitting). VUMBURA CAMP'S Each one of the 8 tented rooms has en-suite facilities with hot and cold running water, a shower, and flush toilet as well as an outdoor shower under the stars. The main dining, lounge and pub area is tucked beneath a canopy of indigenous trees with a view across the floodplain. Botswana Government and the Tawana Land Board to the people who live along the Okavango 's northern boundary so that they can derive direct benefits from the wildlife and the environment on their doorstep.  These people live in five traditional villages to the north of the Okavango and the Kwedi. To ensure that the benefits from this arrangement are spread throughout all the people in this area, the annual payments we make go to a trust called The Okavango Community Trust. This trust represents the interests of all the people living in the five villages to the north of the Okavango . They also get the first job opportunities, the training and the benefits of other community projects that we run in the area from time to time. The five villages involved in this joint venture are Seronga , Gunitsoga , Eretsha , Betsha , and Gudigwa . SAFARI ACTIVITIES AT OKAVANGO DELTA VUMBURA CAMP BOTSWANA Open 4x4 Land Rovers allow close proximity to animals in the savannah areas. This is possibly the only area in the Okavango where one can see Red Lechwe from a mokoro in the morning, then a Sable antelope from a game vehicle in the afternoon. Add in Lion, Leopard, Elephant and Buffalo along with all the plain game, and one has an excellent all round game experience in a remote corner of the Okavango. Walks on the islands give guests the opportunity to enjoy Africa from a different perspective. The VUMBURA CAMP has a plunge pool. Access into this area is only by aircraft and then by vehicle to. VUMBURA CAMP If the waters are high in winter, we may have to access the camp from the airstrip by mokoros or boat. VUMBURA CAMP has both the wetland and savannah species of wildlife Red Lechwe , Waterbuck , Hippos , Crocodiles , as well as Sable, Kudu , Wildebeest and Tsessebe , who roam the open plains. On game drives we often see more Sable than we do Impala . Herds of Buffalo and Elephant occur here, along with the predators - Lion, Leopard, Wild Dog and Cheetah . Guests who enjoy their birding will love the combination of all the Okavango water "specials" with acacia and dry woodland species.
